Though he may have been born in France, Juan Carmona’s origins, both musical and genealogical, come from Spain. Growing up in Lyon, the young Flamenco guitarist moved to Jerez de la Frontera as soon as he could, living in the Andalucian flamenco capital for nearly a decade. Putting a modern, innovative touch on the traditional Jerez style of flamenco, Carmona blends old and new flamenco. Back in France now, he continues to collaborate with a wide-range of musicians and to earn recognition for his work, receiving the Charles Cros Academy Award in November 2014 for his album ‘Alchemya’ as well as the Ziryab Virtuosos Award presented by UNESCO in May 2015. His latest album, ‘Perla de Oriente’, recorded during his tour of Asia, was released in 2016.
